Thailand Flood Waters Slowly Begin to Recede
Many areas of Thailand remain flooded, especially those to the west and east of Bangkok, and it is still expected to take many weeks for all water to reach the Gulf of Thailand. The government estimates that it will take as long as two months for the flood waters to fully recede.
Rising Water Levels in Thailand Cause the Worst Floods in More Than 50 Years
With Bangkok expected to completely give way to rising water levels over the coming days and the country’s industrial region Ayutthaya to the North of the city largely submerged, Crawford’s adjusters continued with efforts to help customers, many of whom have been left in almost complete isolation caused by the worst floods in over 50 years.
Deadly Thailand Flooding Threatens Bangkok
Floodwaters in Bangkok have reached Don Muang Airport, one of the Thai capital's two main airports and home to the flood relief operation command, which may have to move to another location, according to the governor. In the east, the industrial estates of Lat Krabang and Bang Chan remain under threat, and volunteers are being sought for help with sandbagging.

Extensive flooding continues to wreak havoc throughout Thailand, where the 10 worst affected provinces include Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Singburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Nakornsawan, Chachoengsao, Pathumthani, and Nonthaburi. Approximately 30 of Thailand’s 77 provinces are reportedly underwater at present.
Out-of-Control Wildfires Wreak Havoc in Texas; Crawford & Company has Adjusters Standing By
More than 1,000 homes have been destroyed and four people reportedly killed as a result of Texas' most devastating wildfires in more than a decade. The Bastrop County Complex fire is an ongoing wildfire in Bastrop County, near Austin, Texas. The fire began during Labor Day weekend and has already spread across 33,000 acres, forcing the evacuations of at least 5,000 people. This devastating wildfire has destroyed the highest number of homes ever lost to a single fire in Texas history.
Widespread Flooding and Power Loss Remain Across Much of the East Coast in the Wake of Hurricane Irene; Crawford & Company has Capacity
Across the east coast and New England, entire communities remain cut off by floodwaters Wednesday, while more than 2.85 million people were still without power in the wake of Hurricane Irene. As of today, the storm has been blamed for 44 deaths across 13 states. The National Guard and firefighters began airlifting food, water and other supplies to residents still isolated by severe flooding.
Irene Heads Toward New York & New England Today; Crawford & Company Adjusters are Ready
Hurricane Irene is still a Category 1 storm and is already affecting New York City with high water in lower Manhattan Island. Slow weakening is expected after Irene makes landfall in New England later today, but the large wind field continues to expand.
Hurricane Irene Makes Landfall in North Carolina; Crawford & Company Adjusters are Ready to Assist
The National Hurricane Center reports that the eye of Hurricane Irene made landfall this morning at 7:30 a.m. (EDT) near Cape Lookout, North Carolina. The intensity of Irene at landfall was estimated to be a Category 1 with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (140 km/h). Irene is moving to the north-northeast at 14 mph (22 km/h) and is expected to remain on its current track for the next 24 hours. A slight reduction in intensification is expected as Irene crosses eastern North Carolina, but is forecast to remain a hurricane with a very large wind field as it moves near or over the Mid-Atlantic states and New England.
Hurricane Irene may Affect Millions up the East Coast; Crawford & Company Adjusters are Standing By
Hurricane Irene is just below major hurricane status this morning as it moves north at 14 mph (22 km/h). Intensification is expected, though, prior to its predicted landfall mid-day Saturday around North Carolina's Outer Banks. As of 8:00 a.m. (EDT) Friday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that Irene's maximum sustained winds are 110 mph (175 km/h) and that the storm will likely stay on its current track.

A dangerous Hurricane Irene is currently battering the northwestern Bahamas as a Category 3 storm. A turn toward the north-northwest is expected later today, followed by a turn toward the north by early Friday. As of 11:00 a.m. (EDT) Thursday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that Irene's maximum sustained winds have remained a constant 115 mph (185 km/h) and will likely remain a Category 3 storm as it heads toward the eastern and northeastern U.S. coast over the weekend. Hurricane and tropical storm watches are now in effect for parts of the Carolinas.
