How to Help

Red Cross

Hurricane Maria, a Category 4 storm, ravaged Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, along with the islands of Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Culebra and Vieques earlier this week.

Thousands of residents and businesses are without power and water across the Caribbean, and many may not have a reprieve for weeks. Downed trees and power lines are making it extremely difficult for responders to reach those that need help and challenging for utility companies to restore services. Communication is spotty at best, adding another layer of difficulty to the already dire situation. Sources say that many of the islands will be uninhabitable for four to six months.1

“Thankfully, all of Crawford’s PR and USVI staff are safe and accounted for; however, the Crawford office in Puerto Rico suffered significant damage and will be relocated until conditions improve,” said Crawford U.S. Property & Casualty CEO, Ken Tolson. “We have already begun implementing our business continuity plan for the region.”

Crawford & Company® is currently preparing resources for deployment to the islands but must wait until conditions permit travel to the area.

“Our team continues to work through client commitments associated with Harvey and Irma. We have fielded more than 65,000 calls via our call centers,” added Tolson.

From field services, Lookers® and drone operators to Contractor Connection®, our managed repair network, Crawford is leveraging skills and experience across business units to address the needs of clients before, during and after these disasters. Global Chief Operating Officer Rohit Verma commented, “The frequency and urgency of recent disasters has presented Crawford with a unique opportunity to bring people and departments together in new ways. We have seen a concerted effort among employees to work as one global Crawford to help those affected begin the recovery process. We are grateful for the dedication that our employees have demonstrated during this difficult time.”
